They're called "Rates" in this part of the world, and yes substantially less. In the city a $2.6m property I'd expect to pay say $2-2.5k
Rural is less, my place is circa $1m and I'm paying about $860 a year.

Interesting. At least here in the states, property taxes in a lot of states are the primary source of funding for public schools. And states vary *wildly* in the tax rate on property.

For example, in Colorado, our effective *state* rate is 0.49%
In Texas, the effective state rate is 1.60%
New Jersey: 2.26%

Definitely higher where I’m from… about 10x. Water and trash removal are included fwiw. School tax is separate.
