This, apparently is going to make the 2016 ballot here in CO. Single payer and pot? Clearly we have begun the slow slide into socialist hell.

Edit: @Toshi. Thoughts?
I think this will be good for those in the Medicaid group or employed but without an employer subsidy. Those with employer subsidies will continue to soldier on in their own plans.

Overall I am all for it as long as it has a good funding mechanism underlying it. (For an example of a bad funding mechanism, see Utah's attempt to expand Medicaid in a fiscally neutral way by raising licensing fees for doctors to something like $5k/year (!). That's not fair.)

He essentially wants an HSA with a fixed subsidy for everybody. It sounds like ~$666 of that $2k will go to insurance premiums for a mandatory catastrophic plan. I don't see how that will work for the whole population, as that's cheaper than even catastrophic plans for healthy people under 30 years old.

Of course, he could make the US government the issuer of this insurance, and call it "high deductible Medicaid/Medicare v2.0" instead...

Thanks Obama.

The new federal indictment alleges that Philip Esformes and a handful of Miami co-conspirators bilked Medicaid and Medicare for 14 years by cycling some 14,000 patients through various Esformes facilities, where many received unnecessary or even harmful treatments. Drug addicts were allegedly lured to the facilities with promises of narcotics, and prosecutors say some received OxyContin and fentanyl without a physician's order to entice them to stay.

Also, and perhaps it deserves it's own thread, but Prop 106. Finally, the death panels we deserve. I'm sure the usual religious loonies will be aghast, but jesus fuck is it about time we start behaving like a civilized society and allow people to die with some god damn dignity. I'm curious as to your thoughts as a "medical professional".

I'm going to an info session tomorrow. From what I've read the funding mechanism is a new 10% income tax, capped at $450k. That's a lot of money for those of us making high incomes: I pay $19/month pre-tax for the family premium for a high deductible plan, for instance.

I will attend the session and see if it looks good despite the clear price tag, though.

I'm all for allowing people choice in such matters. Two times verbal and one written request seems like plenty of evidence someone wants to move on already.

Per month? :twitch:

I'd have to go back and look, but I seem to recall I did the math when this was first proposed and I would be coming out ahead paying the increased tax vs what I pay as my portion of our "healthcare" plan. Like, a not insignificant amount too.

Doctors And Hospitals Say ‘Show Me The Money’ Before Treating Patients

"After arriving by ambulance at the emergency department, Susan Bradshaw lay on a gurney in her hospital gown with a surgical bonnet on her head, waiting to be wheeled into surgery to remove her appendix at a hospital near her home in Maitland, Fla. A woman in street clothes approached her. Identifying herself as the surgeon’s office manager she demanded that Bradshaw make her $1,400 insurance payment before the surgery could proceed.

“I said, ‘You have got to be kidding. I don’t even have a comb,’” Bradshaw, a 68-year-old exhibit designer, told the woman on that night eight years ago. “I don’t have a credit card on me.”

The woman crossed her arms and Bradshaw remembers her saying, “You have to figure it out.”"

Whelp, back to being halfway to a lifetime cap and keeping my fingers crossed that the wifes colitis doesn't ever turn into cancer.

— Defeated: Dem-led amendment preserving Obamacare's pre-existing conditions provision. The provision, which is perhaps the most popular piece of the health reform law, was defeated by Republicans in a 49-49 procedural motion.

— Defeated: Dem-led amendment allowing young adults to stay on parents' health plans. This is another popular provision of Obamacare, and the amendment sponsored by Sen. Tammy Baldwin would've allowed young adults to remain on their parents’ health plans until they turn 26. The measure failed by a 50-48 tally, largely along party lines.

I have obamacare.

I broke my foot (three bones) this last fall. My insurance didn't pay for ANYTHING medically related to my injury.

AND, my insurance rates DOUBLED. It's like going to a restaurant, ordering and paying for food but not actually getting any food.

I am probably the only person who has obamacare and wants to see it removed.

THANKS OBAMA!

Brian is going to save a bunch of money on his health insurance when they drop coverage of his kids, and any conditions he has.

Maybe you should have gotten cancer instead?

Obamacare saved my life

In 2000 my insurance was 100% company paid. By 2015, I was paying $1200/month as a contracted employee. Don't thank Obama, thank the insurance industry.

Consider UnitedHealth, the nation's largest health insurer that is leaving the marketplace next year. UnitedHealth claims that Obamacare has reduced its 2016 earnings by $850 million. While they might have $850 million less than they wanted, UntedHealth’s profits are still soaring.

In fact, UnitedHealth announced record-breaking profits in 2015, followed by an even better year this year. In July 2016, UnitedHealth celebrated revenues that quarter totalling $46.5 billion, an increase of $10 billion since the same time last year. And company filings show that UnitedHealth’s CEO Stephen J. Hemsley made over $20 million in 2015. To be fair, that is a pay cut. The previous year, in 2014, Hemsley took home $66 million in compensation
How is the CEO supposed to live on only $20M in this day and age?

Your gripe is valid, but repealing the ACA won't do shit to fix what's broken here, which is a) misunderstanding of what high deductible plans cover and don't cover, and b) misunderstanding of the (lack of) relationship between the ACA and health insurance premiums.

Sweet, my pre-existing condition will save some cash for sure then. Sounds like a good time to take up DH again. What could go wrong ?
